Mark 4: 40 And He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (NASB)
I don’t watch scary movies. I still remember the first scary movie I watched as a child. That movie was “Dracula,” and the frightening characters and scenes lived in my dreams for weeks. Like “Dracula,” there are many unwanted images and thoughts from the past that I allow to dwell in my mind, rent free. I’m sure you can think of things that live rent free in your head from a long time ago.
In the story of Jesus calming the sea, you can see the disciples afraid of two events: First, they were frightened by the waves, the wind and the water getting inside the boat. Secondly, they were scared of Jesus because of what He did. He simply calmed the storm by rebuking it. They saw his words had power over demons, illness and now, nature. The disciples wondered, Who is this man? I used to be frightened thinking, what if Dracula was real? Now, I have the assurance that my God is real! No matter what comes our way, our God can take care of every storm in our lives. We should not be scared of this world. Rather, we should be confident in what our God can do. He can save you from any storm that comes your way. Let God live in your mind, not fear.
