This past Wednesday night we had to combine all of our 3rd to 6th graders. The good news is that we were on the same topic for both age groups which was sin and the fall of man. Our fantastic verse for the week was Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. We also added John 3:16 to tie in the good news, “For God so Loved the World, that He gave His only Son, that who ever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
This lesson was good for the kids to think about how perfect God made everything and how we messed it up and how God is so rich in mercy that He provided a way for us to gain that perfection again.
First, the world was perfect before Adam and Eve sinned. In Genesis 1 we read several details that give us solid evidence of this perfection. Everything God created he called “GOOD”. That means nothing was bad in God’s sight which means a perfect God would make everything perfect.
Next we read that all the animals, Adam and Eve were given “GREEN FOOD” to eat. Did you hear that? No creature was killed to eat for meat. That came after the flood in Genesis 9. Also, the animals were not afraid of Adam. He named them all and was given “dominion” to rule. Only after the flood in Gen. 9 do we read that the fear of man was going to be on all creatures.
Finally, God gave us a choice to serve Him. Satan fell from God’s presence, because he rebelled against God and told the first lie to Adam and Eve and they chose to go against God’s only commandment at the time. When God said “you WILL die if you eat”, Satan simply changed it to “you will NOT die if you eat. This is also our clue of God’s perfection. If Adam had not eaten the fruit, he wouldn’t have died.
The Good News is that God provides a way through Jesus Christ to restore this perfection. He promises a new heaven and new earth where everything will be restored back to the GOOD way he intended. Our only requirement is to have an obedient faith in the glorious and perfect Jesus Christ.
