Changes

We were in Decatur last night and decided to eat at my favorite barbeque place, Gibsons Barbeque. I grew up with Gibson’s. I’ve eaten there all my life. So I could not believe it when Jane said, “They have french fries.” Sure enough, listed right there in the menu, french fries. For the first time in my life I had french fries at Gibsons.

Another famous barbeque place in our area, Dreamland, has also undergone changes in some of their restaurants. Our Birmingham Dreamland will offer potato salad, slaw, banana pudding and some other sides. The original Dreamland served sauce, white bread and ribs, period. And you had better not ask for anything else.

Restaurants and businesses change in order to please their customers. All of us change with the times and circumstances to a certain degree.

But with regard to the teachings of Jesus, his commandments and instructions to us we are not to change. Our task as faithful Christians is to be moving toward the teachings of Jesus or to be holding fast to them.

Rather than conforming to and for the world in which we live, we are, instead, given a different mind set to live by.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. (Rom 12:2 )

Our trust in God and our love for Him is shown in our faithful allegiance to His word.
